What's with all the talk about unity?
On the first Sunday of each month all congregations gather as one known as, "Together is Better Sunday." This is a Sunday when Crave Life, chooses to participate in combined worship with two other ELCA congregations that share the facility. Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran and Thai Shepherd join in to praise our Lord together as one!
We share in food many times after worship and plan service projects to serve God, our community and each other. We realize that being together truly makes us better!
* Firstly, we challenge the untested assumption that bringing together racially diverse congregations as one in friendship, service and worship is impossible. While the majority of our country worships racially apart, and our political systems foster separation, we choose to live alternatively, in unity.
* Secondly, we gain a broader perspective of God through the faces, voices, gifts and stories of different people from vastly different backgrounds. The ability to hear Gospel readings in different languages and sing hymns and worship songs of all styles, while enjoying choir numbers and solo pieces reminds us that giving up some of our comfort is totally worth it.
* Thirdly, we realize that we have a higher goal that unifies us. Christ Jesus! Therefore, we are no longer bound by our labels and identities, instead we are bound by our triune God, creator of all, and savior of all.
