Crave Life was commissioned as a church in the summer of 2011 and on March 11, 2012 Crave Life celebrated its first preview service with more than 120 attending. With the support of the Covenant denomination and three local covenant churches Crave Life was launched into existence. For the next four years Crave Life wondered from worship venue to worship venue, from city to city, from schools, to lodges, to space museums and even into some church rental rooms. After four fruitful years of ministry Crave Life was forced to close its doors due to financial and facility struggles. However, after that grieving moment a few faithful people continued to gather in living rooms and backyards, until a local Reformed pastor and church offered up some space to meet for free. Once again the group began to grow and form into something new, and soon the decision was made to revive and return to the original name of Crave Life. After a couple years of identifying as a non-denominational church, leaders sensed the calling to find a denominational home and tribe again. Failed attempts to partner with the Salvation Army, the RCA and the PCUSA only made the path clearer towards the ELCA. Not to mention our affinity with Lutheran theology and affirmation of all of God's people.
With much prayer and consideration Crave Life affiliated with the ELCA and arrived to the city of Whittier. Received with open arms by Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran and Thai Shepherd community. While attempting to be a good neighbor towards our Lutheran brothers and sisters, Crave Life offered relationship, friendship and partnership to build upon the unity already at work. Today, all three congregations worship together on the first Sunday of each month and volunteer together to serve our neighborhood and world. We are praying about the next steps and hope to continue seeing unity, inclusivity, diversity, and community. So the story of Crave Life's tribe continues!
